#688 Orange and Black Silk Double Tiger Chinese Hat. Top Orange Tiger has black silk attached braids to create the body outline; a great nose, excellent mouth, and charming flower-like ears; Bottom black silk tiger has fine silk embroidered flowers on silver paper; back wind flap of orange silk has dramatic black silk applique ru-yi or sceptre designs symbolizing good wishes and prosperity. The top tiger and the facial features of the bottom tiger were likely added to an older Qing Dynasty summer hat sometime in the 20th century; blue and green silk lining with some wear; Han Chinese; 22” circumference
