#435 pn Vintage Bai Minority Girls Peony Butterfly Hat; Classic symbolic hat from the Dali Area of Yunnan Province; Attached ru-yi (“may your wished come true”) shaped crown finely embroidered with flowers including the top image a composite of a butterfly and peony; two side attached circles with needle-woven edges of a pink peony (wealth and worldly glory) and the Buddha’s Hand Flower (Immortality) ; five crude base metal Immortal figures on front; on back yin/yang applique images couched with gold foil; cotton lining; print ribbon down the back; the pink satin base is faded and significantly worn; c 1950; collected by the late Peter Nelson in late 1980’s, 18” circumference
