Bai Minority Petal Hat covering Tiger Face; Very unusual Bai tiger hat with 7 appliqué petals of faded pink, red, and green satin with silver couched outlines; hat fully embroidered with flowers and two birds; underneath the petals is a black velvet tiger’s face with teeth and eyes and the flower center for a nose; edges with attached white fur (rabbit?); hat is soiled; c 1950; collected by the late Peter Nelson in the daily area of Yunnan Province in 1989; 20.5” circumference.
