#778 Antique Red Silk Chinese Tiger Wind Hat. Well-used traditional long-backed wind hat for protection of the child; the Chinese wang character for king, representing the tiger as the king of animals, is intact in black velvet above the couched leather eyebrows and under the unusual concentric symbol ears; the appliqued whiskers and mouth still show fine needlework but the eyes have lost some of their metallic elements; lined with polished cotton now water stained; rough condition with soiling and shattered silk on the ears and border trim;  northern China; c1900;  20” circumference; 14” length; p 50 Stories of Chinese Children’s Hats
