#765 Unique Taquile Island Quechua Girls Knit Hat. An amazingly tightly knit long hat knit by a father for his daughter on this until recently isolated island in Lake Titicaca on the Peruvian side. In the past cactus needles were used to do the fine knitting while tiny strong needles sometimes made from bicycle spokes are used now. Boys’ and men’s hats are similar but do not have the ruff to protect from the strong high altitude sun. Purchased on Taquile Island in early 21st century; 18” circumference; 20” L with pompom; excellent condition;
