Pam's interest in textiles is long standing, but her fascination with textiles of the Chinese Minority People began in 2003, when she took a two-year assignment to work as a counselor at the International School of Tianjin, China.
School vacation trips took her to all parts of China but she was particularly enthralled with the people in rugged southwest China. Over eager collecting resulted in the need to share the gorgeous textiles created by strong people living in difficult and challenging conditions. Her interest is in both older classical pieces and in the continuation of textile traditions in work done today.
Returning to her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Pam, is now selling some of her textile treasures and as well as Miao silver work on the textiletreasures.info web site and at local markets.
In 2006 she began representing silversmiths from Guizhou Province at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market.
For 15 years she had a gallery with Traveler's Market in Santa Fe and since summer 2022 her treasures can be found at Traveler's Boutique in The Design Center, 418 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501.
Welcome to Textile Treasures specializing in vintage Chinese Children’s Hats as well as Chinese Minority textiles and jewelry.
The People's Republic of China officially recognizes 56 nationalities which make up their population.
The Han people speaking dialects of Chinese comprise approximately 91% of the population, while the minority nationalities belonging to various other linguistic groups compose the remaining 9%. The Miao, Dong, Zhaung, Yi, Yao, Hani, Buyi, and Maonan living in mountainous areas of the southwestern provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan, Yunnan, and Sichuan are the main minorities whose incredible work are represented in our website.
All of the textile work offered on this site are traditional pieces created by hand.
Efforts are made to be as accurate as possible in dating the items and when possible explaining the techniques involved in what is nearly always extremely elaborate, highly skilled and time-consuming work.
In addition to vintage pieces, we are committed to providing a market for those skilled crafts people who are able to continue their traditional handicrafts in their rapidly changing world.
